A Workshop on Data Analysis Using SPSS

Al-Shifa School of Public Health is proudly announcing another workshop to enhance your research skills with advance statistical techniques from August 21 - 22, 2017.

Rationale for workshop:
This workshop is intended to equip participants with basic & advance data analysis skills using SPSS to produce best quality research and contribute to evidence based policies and practices in Pakistan. The main focus of the training will be on identifying the right statistical technique for different research questions and carrying out data analysis using SPSS. The participants will learn how to make the data ready for analysis, data entry, cleaning and analysis in SPSS. We will go a step further and will learn how to interpret and report findings/results. Keeping in view the ultimate aim of the workshop, hands-on training methodology will be used targeting on ‘do how’ rather than only ‘know how’.


What will you learn ?

By the end of workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Choose the right statistical technique for different research questions
  • Enter, edit & clean data in SPSS
  • Generate new variables in SPSS using various arithmetic and statistical functions and operands
  • Analyze data using basic and advance statistical techniques in SPSS
  • Interpret SPSS output tables and report findings for publishing

What will be covered in the workshop ?

It will be a three days intensive workshop with hands-on training on SPSS. The major content of the workshop is:

  • Introduction to SPSS
  • Review of basic concepts: Data types, Study designs, Research questions
  • Data entry, editing, transformation and cleaning in SPSS
  • Using descriptive statistics & charts to summarize data in SPSS
  • Data Analysis, interpretation and reporting of findings for:
1 Chi square tests
  • Chi Square test of independence
  • Chi Square test for Goodness of fit
  • McNemar’s Test
  • Cochran’s Q Test
2 t-tests with effect size calculations
  • Independent sample t-test
  • paired sample t-test
  • one sample t-test
3 ANOVA
  • One way ANOVA with Tukey’s HSD post hoc tests
  • Repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni’s correction
4 Correlation & Regression
  • Correlation
  • Linear regression (Model Fit)
  • Logistic regression

Prerequisites:
The participants are expected to have a basic know how of Biostatistics and Research. Participants should bring their personal laptops/computers for the workshop. We will provide free SPSS installation service.

FEES:
Registration fee for the workshop is Rs. 10,000. 50% Discount available for students, group & early registration.
