Introduction of Bachelors of Science in Public Health (BSPH)

BS Public Health Mission:

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) is to preserve, promote, and improve the health and well-being of populations, communities, and individuals.

Vision Statement:

The BS Programme envisions excellence in public health teaching, training and capacity building through providing broad perspectives of health and health-care and innovation, critical-thinking and lifelong learning skills into health-care settings.

It will strive to acquire methods to propagate knowledge that will be useful for the furthering of Public Health Education into Masters’ and Doctoral programmes.

Programme Goal:

The BSPH programme aims to improve the health status of the population, which is to be achieved by providing professionals with a high quality of undergraduate training programme in public health sciences.

Objectives:

  1. Produce competent, committed and skilled public health professionals.
  2. Provide foundation for choosing a relevant Track in Public Health in future.
  3. Prepare skilled workforce in public health auxiliary and support services
  4. Prepare leadership in public health.
  5. Develop, administer and evaluate health policies and programmes.
  6. Participate directly in efforts to improve the health of the community using community-based and health systems’ assessment of preventive services.
  7. Conduct basic and applied research relevant to the description, risk factors and interventions for the resolution of health problems in the human populations

 
Structure of the Programme:

BSPH Programme Duration, Credit and Medium of Instruction:

BSPH extends up to forty eight (48) months comprising eight semesters. English is the medium of instruction and examination for the BSPH program.

Semester Wise Distribution for BSPH (4 Year Programme):

The distribution of the core and elective courses in all the semesters is given in the following tables.

SCHEME OF STUDIES:

The normal duration of a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) programme is four (04) years. Each academic year consists of two semesters.

There shall be two semesters in an academic year (Fall semester and Spring Semester). Each semester shall be of 18 weeks for teaching and one week for Mid-Semester Examinations. Final Examination shall be conducted by the University at the end of each semester.
